Answer: “Deadlift trains the posterior chain far better than any squat variation, so there’s no sense in picking a squat style based on posterior chain demands. The purpose of squats is to train hip and knee extension strength. Olympic squats do that better because they use greater range of motion, whereas the powerlifting squat is basically finding a way to get to legal depth while staying in the strongest possible position. It’s designed to allow the heaviest weight to be lifted, not for ideal muscular strengthening. I have no problem with the powerlifting squat style, but Olympic squats combined with deadlift variations is the simplest way to cover all the bases effectively.”
